Netflix’s next Spanish original series is a period piece about a phone company

Netflix is beefing up its foreign-language original programming with a new drama being shot and produced in Spain, according to Variety. It doesn’t have a title yet, but almost every other piece of the puzzle is in place: it has a show-runner (director Carlos Sedes), an episode count, a topic (four women working together as switchboard operators in 1920s Madrid), and a premiere date: 2017. It’ll start production later this year. It isn’t Netflix’s first Spanish-language program the Mexican comedy Club de Cuervos and the bilingual cocaine drama Narcos beat it to that distinction but it is the company’s first original series with roots in Spain.
