Netflix’s next Spanish original series is a period piece about a phone company

Netflix is beefing up its foreign-language original programming with a new drama being shot and produced in Spain, according to Variety. It doesn’t have a title yet, but almost every other piece of the puzzle is in place: it has a show-runner (director Carlos Sedes), an episode count, a topic (four women working together as switchboard operators in 1920s Madrid), and a premiere date: 2017. It’ll start production later this year. It isn’t Netflix’s first Spanish-language program — the Mexican comedy Club de Cuervos and the bilingual cocaine drama Narcos beat it to that distinction — but it is the company’s first original series with roots in Spain.
